Physiotherapy Team

Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.

Our in-house physiotherapy team provide care, exercise and rehabilition for the pupils at Braidburn School to ensure their physical wellbeing. Braidburn has the advantage of therapy rooms complete with relevant equipment, as well as hydrotherapy pool.

Occupational Therapy Team

A simple of definition of occupational therapy is that it helps people engage as independently as possible in the activities (occupations) which enhance their health and wellbeing

Braidburn benefits from the input of our on-site Occupational Therapists. Our OTs help ensure that each pupil can take part in school and everyday life to the fullest extent possible by providing methods, exercises and equipment to facilitate independence.

Speech and Language Team

Speech and language therapy is concerned with the management of disorders of speech, language, communication and swallowing in children and adults.

The Speech and Language Therapy team at Braidburn help to promote and embed a range of inclusive communication strategies across the school such as visual supports, Signalong and Tactile signing, Object signifiers and Song signifiers.

All pupils at Braidburn benefit from a communication rich environment where a mixture of communication methods are used and tailored to the individual. We deliver training for all staff (e.g. Eating, drinking, swallowing training and Inclusive Communication Training), coaching for staff on how to support pupils with eating and drinking difficulties, and joint groups within the class to model the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods, including communication aids.

We will support individual children on a needs basis, e.g. if there is concern about their eating and drinking, and/or communication. We work directly with the child/young person for assessment and therapy, and indirectly, such as working with education staff or families.
